Coach Carter - My Review
I had high expectations for this show... Wanted to watch for a long time but seemed that no one was interested bcos of the raised movie prices. But den, I found someone!!! And the show was funny and very real too... though I dunno if the ending is too good to be true. I always liked to watch Samuel L. Jackson act roles of authority position. He just feels very convincing. His body language, the way he speaks. So passionate. But I'd never wanna be under his authority. In this show, yar, he stars as Ken Carter aka Coach Carter, of Richmond High School Basketball team. He's new, coaching a team with skill but also attitude. Then, the usual underdog winning theme rolls out. He trains them, encourages them, moulds them into better players. Not only on the field, but off the field too. He's very adament that the players attain the necessary academic standards required of a student. Hence, he made them sign contracts on his first day on the job. He addresses them as "sir" saying it's a form of his respect to them. And when one player asks,"y are u calling me sir?" he replies,"you want me to call mdm?" haha... nice comeback. His form of punishment for all sorts of attitude, is given in the form of pushups and "suicides". "Either you pushup, or you shutup." Hahaha!!! (But that's y i'd nv want him to be my coach... cannot even do 10. The highest in the show was 2500!!!!!) So, the team goes on a winning streak and it gets to their heads (guys...) and it turns out they haven't been honouring their side of the contract ie: academic results, attendance, sitting in the front row etc... So? What does the coach do when he finds out the whole team is rebelling? (Ok, not whole, but some, but carter says bball is a team game, so they suffer as a team *lolz*..)He benches the whole team. THE WHOLE TEAM. No one ever did that. So the whole town goes into a furore. Media frenzy and all that crap. Everyone's mad that the team's not playing; that Carter took away the only thing important in these boys' life blah blah... And then we see the dark side of human nature. Carter then respond in a way that strikes a chord with me. The pincipal of the school tried to talk some sense into him,"This tournament, playing basketball, is the most important thing of their lives..." He retorts,"and i think that is the problem. Don't you think so?" Heh, of course the principal is speachless. =P But that's true right? If playing basketball in high school becomes the MOST important thing in your entire life, isn't that quite pathetic? Your high point in life is when you're 17 yrs old playing bball? What abt your future? There's so much ahead and these pple are forsaking all that. Well, he can't get through to their parents, at least he got to the kids. They listened.(So guai...) The message is this: You can dream. You should dream. But be realistic at the same time. Not everyone can make it to NBA or wateva pro sports league there is.
On another note, the guy acting "worm", called Antwonn sth, he's really cute and looks so dashing in that red suit. XD
