Mai HiME characters & relationships (cont)

Mai & Natsuki:
Nothing much to say... I think the beginning kinda pointed in the way of a rivalry, with Natsuki being very hostile to Mai's arrival. But they actually developed friendship along the way. Well, the start probably came at an embarrassing expense of Natsuki, but I do think that Mai has a lot of respect for Natsuki and vice versa.

Natsuki & Shizuru:
Fav. pairing =D We don't see much of Shizuru before ep19, only a few inserts here and there. But they do show that Natsuki has a close friendship with her at the beginning. Natsuki does not treat anyone as she does to Shizuru. She seems more comfortable, and more relaxed. She uses Shizuru's laptop like nobody's business. It's only until ep 19 that we really see Shizuru's true feelings towards Natsuki. And at the critical point, where Natsuki's in danger(of course), she appears as a HiME to save her!!! It's sweet and all that until the writers decided to taint their relationship with Shizuru molesting Natsuki(I'm sure it wasn't rape) in her vulnerable state thus breaking the trust. I was like "wtf do/does they/she think they/she are/is doing!" But then I calmed down as the story progressed logically with Natsuki freaking out at this revelation and Shizuru, seeing it as the rejection as it is, goes completely berserk psycho. =X Sure it's scary, but it's fun too. Shizuru's voice is always calm and collected even when wiping out the whole first district. The scene with the old ladies running(if that speed is called running) away from a leisurely looking Shizuru was so damn funny. But I think it's this calmness contrasting the chaos she's creating that totally depicts her state of mind. She has nothing after losing Natsuki, so she uses the only way she thinks will keep Natsuki with her. "I'll never let go of you", she said. Single minded on getting Natsuki while ignoring the rest. The writers somehow redeemed theirselves by making Shizuru Natsuki's MIP. However, they did it in an ambiguous way that some people can interprete it otherwise, with Natsuki saying she doesn't return the same kind of love but still loves her dearly. I guess it's a good way to end their existence.

Natsuki & Nao:
They are both alike. Starking similarities include deliquence, anti-social, and lost of family members. After tragedy struck them, both had extremely intense hatred and the need to exact revenge. They were set on not trusting anybody but themselves. The difference: Shizuru. Natsuki had Shizuru to pull her out of that cage she built for herself. Shizuru extended a hand of friendship(whether for more personal reasons is debatable but I choose to believe it was pure good intent at that time and even now still), broke down the walls Natsuki built around herself, and brought her into the world of the living, thus paving ways for more friendship to add happiness into her life. Nao did not have anyone to take on the role Shizuru played for Natsuki, and so she is the extremist that she is today. Whether it's because of this difference or similarities that these 2 don't really see eye to eye, I'm not sure. But their interactions sure make me laugh so much. =D
