Soukyuu no Fafner: Characters Review II

Kaname Sakura(centre): I like her fiestiness, her seriousness(compared to her other 2 companions), and her ability to take care of herself off the battlefield. Her rashness in battle(probably some chromosomes alteration due to piloting fafners resulting in drastic personality extremism), hence stupidity in my equation, shattered my initial impression of her being a strong individual with leadership qualities though. But I quickly accepted the fact that she's just human. And that's the way she is, rash and stupid, and still hurting from her father's death. 3 of them (in the pic) are a funny group. On and off battle. That is when 2 of them were still alive. Poor Kenji. Sakura/Kenji relationship developed late in the series and I strongly protested to that! They were so sweet together... Kenji being a wimp and Sakura being the bossy one but girly when Kenji confesses his feelings. But she got assimilated due to pilot fatigue or sth. I was rather moved as I thought of her "death" being unworthy. She was a fighter and yet she was overcome not on the battlefield, but in a playground, when everything was peaceful(for the time being). How fate toys with these kids... (or rather how the writers toy with these lovable characters)

Kondou Kenji(left): He's a wimp, a coward, rather useless, and a crybaby on the battlefield. But I like this character. And he proved his mettle when he conquered his fears and fought the last battle bravely. For most of the series, he was, what I consider, "untouched" by the tragedies that happened. So, everything abt him was light and comedic. However, for him, it all came at once, continuous. Sakura got assimilated. Then Mamoru KIA. Followed by his mom, when the Festum overrun Alvis. He didn't even had time to recover from the first one and the rest just came rolling. At the end, it was said there was a possible cure for Sakura, but it was never shown... I miss the scenes with his mother... they were funny, and showed how close they were... Guess all good things has to end...

Kodate Mamoru(right): Ok. I remember this guy as the wierdo/idiot who keeps shouting "Gobain" in his Fafner unit. He always puts on the mask during battles, which somehow transforms him from shy easy-going, to confident and aggressive, and sometimes intelligent. But it is just a shield that masks the fear that comes from fighting. He realizes this went Sakura fell, and decided to pluck up his courage. That he did, when he saved the island.

I liked the camaraderie of these 3. It didn't last, but it was good when it lasted.
